Debate- Meaning, Advantage & Limitations of Debate

Meaning 

Debate is an easy way or tehnique to express the thought or views. As the speak a language it is the easiest and smallest (shorted) way of learning. In this technique of expression two or more of one or students different class try to bring about some congress problem or matter or deputed incide. In short “Debate is a formal presentation of arguments on both sides of a question before an audience”. It is also a standard procedure of training in public speaking.

How to manage a Debate?

To manage a debate we should follow the following few steps:

1. To determine problem or topic.
2. Group formation of students.
3. Conduction of the debates.
4. Review of Debates.

How to deliver a Debate?

The procedure of a Debate goes with its selected topic, any problem, matter or incidents and it evolves teacher and student both. There are two groups of students of same class or can be of different classes sometimes and the topic already declared and the students have to speak both sides of the topic means in favor of the topic and against as well. The teacher or any student is assigned the responsibility o president who presides over the debate and one panel for judgement is also organized, it may include students of same or together class or outsiders as well.

Then the orator students put their views before the students/ audience one by one and after their presentation all the students take part in discussion jointly. Addition and supplementary information are produced in favour or against. At last the president presents his comments and the panel informs the president about its decision as to which group has succeeded in giving adequate solution of the problem in question. In this way the debate comes to an end.

Advantages of Debate 

The advantages or menthe of debate are as follow :-

1. Debate cultivates the habit of independent thinking in student.
2. Debate develops healthy sense of rivalry.
3. Debate is very useful at high school level yet it is used at every level of education as it is anyways useful for all.
4. Debate delivering develops the capacity of delivering lecture in students as it remoues hesitation of the students.
5. Debate develops intellect and logic in students.
6. Debate makes the students able to justify the issue whether for or against.

Limitations of Debate 

Debate has few limitations also, as following :-

1. In debate there ever remain discipline problem.
2. Debate is not economic regarding time as it waste time unnecessarily.
3. Debate is not much useful for lower classes.
4. The topics of practical life cannot be the subject of debate for lower stage students.
